International Space Station (ISS) Expedition 58/59 crew, Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko, NASA astronaut Ann McClain and Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut David Saint-Jacques, said goodbye to their families in Star City on Monday, before heading to Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
According to Kononenko,"ISS is very important for the mankind. It's a scientific outpost in Earth's orbit. New technologies are being tried out there. I hope that mankind will start into deep space from there."
McClain added that "the two significant contributions of the International Space Station are the scientific discoveries, scientific engineering discoveries, and the international partnership."
Missions to the ISS are set to resume after a booster on the Soyuz MS-10 failed on October 11, forcing the crew to abort their flight.
The launch date for the Expedition 58/59 is scheduled for December 3.
