You can now call him Smith, Sam Smith, because he just released the theme song for the new James Bond film.
Fans have been talking about the release of this song for several weeks and now that it’s arrived the writing is on the wall. Ok that was corny…the song is titled "Writing's on the Wall," and Smith says its release is a dream come true. Here’s a little preview of the hit.
It’s so beautiful. Fun Fact- that was Sam Smith’s demo recording. They actually used his demo vocals on the final track. And He co-wrote the song with UK writer Jim Napes in less than thirty minutes.
The British star had a long legacy to uphold, following Adele’s Skyfall in 2012 and established artists like Madonna, Paul Mccartney, Carly Simon, Tina Turner, Alicia Keys. But notably,Smith is only the third man to record a James Bond theme song.
He told NPR that he tried to put himself in Bond’s shoes, and QUOTE "My music is a diary and it's a recap of my life, and I wanted to bring that kind of honesty. In the lyrics ... I wanted a touch of vulnerability from Bond, where you see into his heart a little bit."
Well, he definitely delivered a love song, and one that people love because it is #1 on iTunes just hours after its release. What do you think of the song?
